The project experts will create a new geothermal reservoir in Oregon. This tank will be dug at 2.7 km depth, will be located 5.4 km from the center of Newberry Volcano, where the rock reaches temperatures of 300 degrees Celsius.
Newberry Volcano is one of the largest volcanoes in the U.S., and one of the most recent. This volcano last erupted 1,300 years ago and consists of over 400 "holes" exhaust forming a structure known as a "shield volcano".
